Chilled Products:
From the inception of exports in 1989, Greenfields has emphasized the production of prime quality and safe chilled products.
Products are chilled to a core temperature of -1 °C (± 0.5 °C), packed in polystyrene boxes, palletized on plastic pallets and stored in the finished product chill room awaiting dispatch.
Both Nile Perch and Tilapia are exported as chilled products.
Products
- FILLETS:
- Skinless: Either pin-bone in or pin-bone out. The yield varies from 36 - 40% according to customer trimming specifications.
- Kosher: Fillets with a small patch of skin.
- Size range: Varies between 200-gram fillets and "Jumbo" fillets of 3,000 grams.
- OTHER PRODUCTS:
- Portions or loins (skinless or skin-on) as per customer specifications.
- Scaled headed and gutted (H&G).
- Whole gutted scaled.
- Steaks.
- Fillets steaks.
The Chilling Process
Chilling to required temperatures is achieved using a blast chiller, and a cold chain is maintained throughout the production line. Final product temperature is -1 °C (± 0.5 °C) depending on customers' instructions.
Products Packaging
Products are packed in food grade polystyrene boxes of three, six, or 20 kilograms weight. A food grade polyethylene sheet is placed at the bottom of the box and another covers the top layer of the fillets with an optional ice pack at the top. The box is then firmly secured.
Labeling
Strict attention is given to regulatory labeling requirements of both the exporting and importing countries' Competent Authorities.
